After the attack, he reportedly escaped to Mihang’o, where he disposed of the murder weapon, a pistol, which authorities have since recovered. He continued his flight, making his way through Narok before taking public transport to Isebania, allegedly communicating with a relative across the border during his escape.

Detectives managed to track Kuria by intercepting conversations with other suspects already detained. A senior officer involved in the investigation stated, “This man was on the run, and his arrest marks a major breakthrough in our investigation.” The officer further elaborated that Kuria is believed to have fired the shots that killed the MP. He was taken into custody at a lodging facility in Isebania, alongside another suspect who is now also in police custody.

With Kuria’s arrest, the total number of individuals detained in relation to Were’s assassination has risen to eleven. Those already in custody include Were’s personal bodyguard, Allan Omondi, his driver, Walter Owino, and William Imoli, who law enforcement suspects was integral in financing and organizing the plot.

Furthermore, the investigation is extending to high-profile figures like businessman and politician Phillip Aroko, and Ebel Ochieng, director of the Lake Basin Development Authority.
