The Nigeria Police Force extradited Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, alias “Killaboi,” from Qatar to face charges for the murder of Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. His extradition, facilitated through INTERPOL cooperation and legal efforts, follows an extensive international manhunt. The Inspector-General of Police commended the collaboration that made this extradition possible, assuring public commitment to diligent prosecution.
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, known as “Killaboi,” who was apprehended in Doha, Qatar. He was transferred back to Nigeria early on Saturday, April 19, 2025, following his escape after the infamous murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, a first-class student from Lead City University.
Nnayereugo was tracked to Qatar by the legal firm of Femi Falana, after evading law enforcement in six countries since committing the crime on July 13, 2023. His extradition was facilitated through a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Nigeria, Force Headquarters in Abuja, and Qatari authorities.
According to information provided by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a petition from Onuwabhagbe’s family initiated the investigation after Nnayereugo was declared wanted by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department. Despite being arrested in Sierra Leone under a false identity, he managed to escape custody during a prison break before eventually fleeing to Qatar, where he concealed his identity.
Through advanced identification methods and cooperation between INTERPOL NCB offices in Abuja and Doha, his identity was confirmed. The Qatari judicial authorities approved an extradition request facilitated by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Justice, resulting in his return to Nigeria. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, acknowledged the effective collaboration among multiple countries in this significant case.
Egbetokun expressed gratitude to the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Qatari government, INTERPOL, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their roles in the extradition. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to rigorous prosecution of Nnayereugo as part of their objective to uphold justice and safeguard the populace.
The extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo highlights a successful collaborative effort between Nigeria and international partners, including INTERPOL and Qatari authorities. The case emphasizes the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to prosecuting fugitives and ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes. Through persistent investigation and cooperation across borders, law enforcement agencies can effectively address transnational crime.
