Amy Coney Barrett has faced backlash from far-right factions after recently siding with liberal justices against the Trump administration. This ruling, concerning deportation laws, marks a continuation of her contentious relationship with conservative supporters, drawing significant criticism and derogatory labels. The reactions underscore broader tensions against the judiciary regarding decisions that oppose Trump’s policies.

The recent ruling by Amy Coney Barrett, a conservative Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, has sparked significant dissent among the far-right. By siding with three liberal justices, Barrett opposed the Trump administration’s application of a 1798 law regarding the deportation of alleged gang members to Venezuela and El Salvador. This decision marks the second occasion in recent months that Barrett has faced criticism from far-right factions.

In the ruling, the Supreme Court decided, with a narrow 5-4 majority, that the Trump administration could utilize the Alien Enemies Act for deportations, provided detainees receive due process. Reacting to Barrett’s dissent, some in the MAGA community have disparagingly referred to her as “Amy Commie Barrett.” Notable figures, such as Trump ally Mike Lee, expressed disappointment, while Elon Musk remarked on “suicidal empathy” being a civilizational risk.

Barrett has a history of attracting backlash from conservative circles. In March, she voted against a freeze on foreign aid proposed by Trump, leading to accusations of being a “DEI hire.” Despite questions regarding her position, Trump previously praised Barrett as a “very good woman” and “very smart.” Since her appointment by Trump in October 2020, Barrett has maintained a 6-3 conservative majority on the Court and notably voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Right-wing commentator Rogan O’Handley criticized Barrett’s ruling on X, insinuating that her vote would lead to retaining cartels in America, expressing disappointment over her appointment among Trump’s judicial nominees. Additionally, some have analyzed her demeanor during interactions with Trump and circulated images depicting her alongside liberal justices, eliciting further outrage.

The criticism directed toward Barrett reflects broader hostility against judges who issue rulings against Trump’s policies. Such sentiments have escalated to threats against various judges nationwide, with calls for their impeachment becoming prevalent. Notably, Barrett’s sister faced a false bomb threat linked to such ongoing tensions within the judicial landscape.

Amy Coney Barrett’s recent dissent against the Trump administration has incited fierce criticism from the far right, emphasizing the deepening divides within conservative factions. With her history of controversial decisions and the reactions these provoke, Barrett remains a contentious figure among those aligned with Trump. The backlash illustrates the heightened scrutiny judges face, particularly when their rulings conflict with Trump’s policies or agenda.
