During interrogation, both suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in this heinous crime, with the first suspect revealing that she was introduced to her Mauritanian contact by another woman already sentenced for similar offenses.
The first suspect claimed that her role was to recruit girls below the age of 22, specifically stating that her own 19-year-old daughter was among the trafficked individuals. This individual confessed to earning a total of over N500,000 from this illicit scheme, receiving N50,000 for each girl recruited.
The second suspect admitted to being contracted by the first suspect to find domestic staff for Mauritania. However, upon sending a victim who was subsequently rejected, she grew suspicious and eventually learned that the girls were intended for sex work. Concerned about the victim’s age and body size, she decided to withdraw from the trafficking arrangement.
Law enforcement officials indicated that as the investigation continues, both suspects will be charged accordingly in court for their grievous acts.
