Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung has been criticized for promoting divisive tribal politics in the Nimba Senatorial by-election by urging the Mah-speaking people and other tribes to vote for Gio-speaking candidate Samuel Kogar. He claims this is essential for maintaining balance and stability within the county.

In the lead-up to the Nimba Senatorial by-election, which is scheduled for April 22, 2025, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung has been accused of perpetuating tribal divisions in Liberia. He has called upon the Mah-speaking people, as well as other tribes, to support Representative Samuel Kogar, a candidate from the Gio-speaking tribe. Koung asserted that casting votes for candidates other than Kogar would be a waste.

Vice President Koung’s urging for tribal voting to support Senatorial Candidate Samuel Kogar has sparked accusations of fostering divisive politics in Nimba County. His emphasis on maintaining a balance between tribes highlights ongoing tensions in Liberian politics, particularly the challenges surrounding representation and tribal affiliation as the election approaches.
