Acquah has pleaded not guilty to the accusations of robbery and escape from lawful custody as the prosecution plans to introduce an additional charge of causing harm.

The court, overseen by Mr. Jojo Amoah Hagan, granted Acquah bail in the amount of GH¢100,000, requiring two sureties, one of which must be secured by movable or landed property. The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 27, 2025.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the incident occurred after the complainant left her residence in Sakumono NTHC Estate on January 21, 2025, en route to Cape Coast. At around 5:00 AM, Acquah allegedly confronted Baidoo, demanding her handbag, which contained important items, including cash and identification cards.

A struggle ensued when Baidoo refused to comply, leading Acquah to use a knife, inflicting injuries to her palm. Despite being injured, Baidoo ultimately surrendered her handbag to him. An alarm was raised, resulting in Acquah’s arrest by the Sakumono Police Patrol Team, following which Baidoo received medical treatment.

Baidoo was first treated at Sakumono Hospital and later referred to Tema General Hospital, where her wounds were stitched due to their severity. The prosecutor noted that the injury measurements indicated a deep cut, and she was additionally referred to the 37 Military Hospital for plastic surgery. In a striking turn of events, Acquah attempted to escape handcuffed while being led to the charge office but was apprehended shortly after fleeing with the assistance of the police.

In summary, Stephen Acquah stands accused of robbery and escaping lawful custody after allegedly attacking a salesperson. The court has granted him bail, contingent upon the provision of sureties, with the case set to resume in March 2025.
