Alexander Afenyo-Markin visited former BoG Governor Dr. Ernest Addison following a National Security raid at Addison’s home, led by Richard Jakpa. The operatives, armed and aggressive, disabled security systems and conducted a search, yielding no evidence but causing trauma to the family.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, recently visited Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana. This visit was prompted by a controversial raid conducted at Dr. Addison’s residence by operatives from National Security, reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations. Afenyo-Markin expressed his concerns regarding the incident and assured Dr. Addison of his intention to seek accountability from the government.

The incident occurred on March 19, when approximately 20 armed men, including some in balaclavas and armed with AK-47 rifles, raided Dr. Addison’s home located in Roman Ridge, Accra. At the time of the raid, Dr. Addison was present, and upon the operatives’ arrival, they immediately disabled the CCTV system before demanding to be shown any purported “vaults” containing cash.

Dr. Addison denied having any vaults in the residence. Nevertheless, the operatives proceeded to ransack the household in search of valuables, as reported by witnesses. According to Asaase News, no cash or vaults were found during this intrusive search, and the security personnel eventually confiscated the CCTV monitor and control device after their efforts proved fruitless.

A close associate of the Addison family disclosed that the raid has left Dr. Addison, his wife, and the entire family deeply traumatized by this alarming experience. Afenyo-Markin documented his visit, highlighting his solidarity with the former Governor following these distressing events.

In conclusion, the raid on Dr. Ernest Addison’s residence by National Security operatives has provoked significant concern among political leaders and the public. Afenyo-Markin’s visit underscores the gravity of the situation, as he seeks accountability for the actions taken against a former high-ranking official. The incident raises questions about the conduct of security agencies and the implications for the rule of law in the country.
