National Security Raid on Former BoG Governor’s Residence Sparks Outrage

On the morning of March 19, 2025, Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, led a raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, in Roman Ridge, Accra. Approximately twenty armed personnel, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles, conducted a search of the property where Dr. Addison was present. They disabled the CCTV system upon arrival and demanded Dr. Addison to show them any hidden cash vaults within his home.
Despite Dr. Addison’s assurance that he possessed no vaults or cash caches, the armed team proceeded to search the residence thoroughly. Witnesses reported that the security personnel ransacked the house but ultimately found no significant amounts of cash or any vaults. Following the fruitless search, they confiscated the CCTV monitor and control unit, leaving the Addison family traumatized by the incident.
A former senior official of the central bank commented on the unprecedented nature of this raid, stating that it is a troubling first for a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana. This incident marks the second time that Mr. Jakpa has orchestrated such a raid on a former high-profile appointee since President John Mahama assumed office on January 7, 2025. Previously, on February 10, 2025, he was involved in the raid of Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta’s home in Labone, Accra, which was captured on CCTV and later made public.
