Armenia Denies Ceasefire Violations, Urges Peace Talks with Azerbaijan

Armenia has rejected Azerbaijan’s allegations of ceasefire violations along their mutual border and has reiterated its call for the establishment of a joint mechanism to investigate such claims. In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Armenian government dismissed Azerbaijani reports from March 16 to 18, which accused Armenian armed forces of six ceasefire violations. The Armenian Ministry of Defense indicated that inspections had been conducted, confirming the absence of these alleged violations, and stated, “After the above mentioned reports, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia conducted inspection works and as a result of the inspection it refuted the claims about ceasefire violations by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.”
The Armenian Ministry of Defense also recalled an offer made on June 22, 2024, proposing the creation of a joint mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations. The Ministry asserted, “Azerbaijan hasn’t given a positive response to this day.”
On March 17, the Ministry expressed its willingness to investigate the allegations made by Azerbaijan if concrete evidence is provided. The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized, “As of this moment, not a single fact or substantiation about ceasefire violation by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia has been conveyed by the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Armenia.”
It was further stated that Armenia’s armed forces have not been instructed to breach the ceasefire, operating under a “agenda of peace.” Armenia has also urged Azerbaijan to initiate discussions regarding the date and location for signing the peace agreement, which focuses on core issues necessary for establishing peaceful relations.
In January 2025, Armenia submitted proposals to Azerbaijan concerning railway cargo transportation and establishing a mutual arms control mechanism, pending a favorable response from Azerbaijan. Armenia has also expressed its readiness to proceed with border delimitation efforts with Azerbaijan.
In related developments, Egypt has welcomed the successful negotiations regarding the draft peace agreement, asserting that it will contribute to resolving the conflict and promoting stability in the South Caucasus region.
