Elvis Lenzy, born Elvis Inyarubuga on July 2, 2003, in Ngoma District, has emerged as a significant figure in Rwanda’s music landscape. Orphaned at a young age, he was raised by his aunt. Lenzy began his education at New Life Christian Academy and later attended Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village, a school famed for nurturing musical talent, where he recorded his first songs and collaborated with other young artists.

He recalls, “I used to sing all the time, everywhere—at home, for friends, for anyone who would listen. But I didn’t start recording until I got to Agahozo. That’s when I really began experimenting with my sound and meeting people who helped me grow.” Lenzy describes his music style as a fusion of various genres, with Afrobeat at its core. He expresses, “I just want to make music that feels good—to me and to the people listening.”

His breakout single, “Tina,” produced by schoolmate Flambeau, showcases a blend of Afro-fusion rhythms and smooth melodies, garnering attention and positioning him as a promising talent in Rwandan music. Following this success, he released “Akanyambo” on March 14, a dedication to a girl, reflecting a deep appreciation for Rwandan culture through its title, inspired by the elegant Inyambo cattle.

Both songs feature captivating melodies and a rich blend of Kinyarwanda-English lyrics, highlighting Lenzy’s emotional depth and cultural pride. He employs a flexible songwriting approach, stating, “Sometimes I write everything beforehand; other times, I start with melodies and build from there.” Despite his rising fame, Lenzy maintains a grounded perspective, declaring, “I never set expectations. I just do what I have to do and let the people decide.”

Looking to the future, he is committed to expanding his musical footprint in Rwanda, emphasizing the importance of hard work and talent. “There’s a lot more music coming, and not just music—I have many projects in the works. I can’t wait for people to experience them,” he explains. Lenzy is also open to collaborations, seeking partners with a shared vision.

While acknowledging the potential value of mentorship, he believes that faith is paramount, stating, “I don’t really think too much about mentorship. I just believe that everything is in God’s hands.” With his extraordinary talent and focused drive, Elvis Lenzy is undoubtedly a significant figure to watch in Rwanda’s evolving music scene.
