The presiding judge, Mr. Isaac Addo, granted bail to the defendant totaling GH¢75,000 with the requirement of two sureties. Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, representing the prosecution, indicated that the complainant, whose identity remains confidential, was a police officer living in Weija SCC, Accra. The accused, claiming to be a businessman, resides in Weija Gbawe, Accra. In 2021, the officer sought a Toyota Pickup and a Hyundai i30 for his relatives, prompting him to consult a friend who linked him to Adu-Twum.
The prosecution detailed that during a meeting at Abelemkpe, the complainant was shown a Toyota Hilux and a Hyundai i30 which were stated to be auctioned. Due to competitive interest in the vehicles, Adu-Twum stated immediate payment was necessary. Subsequently, a total of GH¢72,000 was arranged; GH¢40,000 was paid at the accused’s office and GH¢32,000 at the complainant’s office at the Ministries. Adu-Twum assured the officer that the vehicles would be available within a week.
After receiving the funds, Adu-Twum allegedly evaded authorities, only to be apprehended on January 15, 2025. During the investigation, he returned GH¢25,000 of the funds to the complainant, as per information presented in court.
