Autopsy Confirms Cause of Death for Kenyan Officer Killed in Haiti

An autopsy revealed that Samuel Kaetuai, a Kenyan police officer, died from a gunshot wound while serving in Haiti. His body was repatriated to Kenya, where burial preparations are ongoing. Kaetuai was the first casualty in the Kenyan-led MSS mission, aimed at controlling gang violence in Haiti.
An autopsy on Samuel Kaetuai, a 26-year-old Kenyan police officer, confirmed that he died from a single gunshot wound. The examination, conducted on March 11 at Chiromo Funeral Parlour in Nairobi, revealed that the fatal injury penetrated his head, leading to extensive bleeding.
Kaetuai’s remains were repatriated to Kenya on the evening of March 10, alleviating the anguish of his family who had been awaiting the identification of their loved one. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, he was received by police officers and family members, including his wife and father.
Though the date for his burial is not yet determined, his body will remain preserved at Chiromo mortuary until burial arrangements are finalized. Kaetuai was tragically shot during a police operation in the Western Artibonite region of Haiti, approximately 92 kilometers from Port-au-Prince.
According to Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission Commander Godfrey Otunge, Kaetuai was airlifted to a hospital after the shooting, but unfortunately, he did not survive. The Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, and senior officers visited Kaetuai’s family in Kajiado County to express their condolences.
The MSS mission, led by Kenyan forces since June 2024, aims to address the violent gang issues in Haiti. Unfortunately, the mission has faced numerous challenges, and Kaetuai’s death marks the first casualty among the Kenyan contingent during this operation.
