Mozambique’s Ministry of Health Launches Overseas Training for Specialist Doctors
The Ministry of Health in Mozambique has commenced an accelerated overseas training program for specialist doctors, lasting five years. This effort is in response to the shortage of professionals in identified areas. Additionally, an electronic mechanism for tracking medicine distribution will be introduced to combat drug diversion in hospitals.
The Ministry of Health (MISAU) of Mozambique has initiated a program aimed at accelerating the training of specialist doctors abroad to address the shortage of medical professionals in specific fields. This initiative is part of a five-year plan designed not only to increase the number of doctors but also to focus on critical areas within the healthcare system.
During a recent appearance on the “Cartas na Mesa” program on Radio Mozambique, Minister of Health Ussene Isse shared that there are currently five hundred foreign medical specialists working in Mozambique, highlighting the reliance on international professionals to bolster the country’s healthcare workforce.
Furthermore, Minister Isse announced that MISAU will implement an electronic system to monitor the distribution of medicines. This measure aims to prevent drug diversion within hospitals, as he noted that there is no valid reason for the state-purchased medicines not reaching health units effectively.
The Ministry of Health’s initiatives to train specialist doctors abroad and introduce electronic tracking for medication distribution represent significant steps toward improving healthcare in Mozambique.
