Three Foreign Tourists Arrested for Assaulting Russian Man in Phuket

Three foreign tourists were arrested in Phuket for assaulting a Russian man after he intervened while they allegedly attempted to attack two Finnish women in a hotel. The suspects, who are German and Turkish nationals, claimed they were trying to help the women but ended up in a physical altercation that left the victim injured.

On Saturday, three foreign tourists were apprehended by police in Phuket, specifically in the Patong subdistrict, for allegedly assaulting a 44-year-old Russian man. The victim, identified as Aleksandr Belinskii, sustained facial injuries while intervening to stop the attackers from assaulting two Finnish women in their hotel room.

Reportedly, the Finnish women were startled when three foreign men forcibly entered their room and attempted to commit a violent act. Belinskii, who was passing by, became involved after noticing the commotion, leading to an altercation with the assailants, who subsequently retaliated against him before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, Patong police tracked down the suspects, identified as two German nationals, Aksu Cemre Can, age 30, and Aksu Ali Cem, age 22, along with Turkish national Yanyana Salman, age 23. The suspects stated that their intentions were to return the Finnish women to their hotel room after a night out but claimed confusion over a misunderstanding involving Belinskii, whom they believed was the women’s boyfriend.

The incident highlights significant safety concerns for tourists in Phuket, as demonstrated by the recent assault. Effective law enforcement actions led to the prompt apprehension of the suspects, maintaining safety in the region. It is crucial for tourists to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
