The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding moderate to heavy rainfall anticipated in multiple regions of the country from March 7 to March 11, 2025. This advisory indicates that areas likely to be impacted include the highlands on both the east and west sides of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley.

In addition to the aforementioned regions, rainfall is expected in the Coastal Region, southeastern lowlands, parts of the northwest, and along the southern coast. The department predicts predominantly sunny, dry, and hot weather preceding these rain events, particularly from the weekend onward, as indicated in their most recent statement.

Counties in the eastern highlands, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, are forecasted to receive significant rainfall from Saturday through Tuesday. On Friday, these areas will experience warm, sunny conditions prior to the onset of rain.

Similarly, counties surrounding the Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley, such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and Nandi, are expected to experience heavy rainfall from March 9 to March 12. Other counties, including Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot, will observe comparable weather patterns.

Conversely, the North Eastern region, comprising counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, is predicted to remain dry and sunny during the weekend. The meteorological department also warned of elevated temperatures exceeding 30°C in most regions, with the exception of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley where temperatures will remain below this threshold. Strong south-easterly winds, surpassing 25 knots, are anticipated in certain parts of northwestern and northeastern Kenya.

In summary, the Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted significant rainfall in numerous regions of Kenya, along with sunny and dry weather conditions preceding the rainfall. County-specific forecasts indicate heavy rains in areas such as the highlands and Lake Victoria Basin, while the North Eastern region is expected to remain dry. Additionally, high temperatures and strong winds may impact various parts of the country during this period.
