NPP Minority Critiques President Mahama’s Claims on Power Crisis in Ghana

The NPP Minority Caucus has rejected President Mahama’s claims of resolving Ghana’s power crisis. They highlighted ongoing disruptions in power supply, which are impacting businesses and daily life. The Minority called for the publication of a load-shedding timetable to help citizens manage the situation effectively.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament has publicly criticized President John Dramani Mahama over his assertions that he resolved Ghana’s ongoing power crisis, known as “dumsor,” in 2016. Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, challenged the President to produce a load-shedding timetable, especially as the nation continues to experience intermittent power outages that disrupt daily activities.
Dr. Amin Adam claimed, “Mr. President, you did not fix ‘dumsor’ as you claimed in your address. Your record on ‘dumsor’ is abysmal, unlike your predecessor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who kept the lights on.” He further highlighted the anxiety and fear among Ghanaians regarding the potential consequences of returning to power outages during another term under President Mahama.
The Minority emphasized the negative impact of power outages on small businesses that depend on consistent electricity supply. “Many people and businesses have already felt the pinch and the pain of living with the current ‘dumsor,’” Dr. Amin Adam stated. Examples included the resurgence of electric generators in various establishments such as shops, clinics, and at social events.
To address the situation, the Minority urged the government to adopt measures to alleviate the challenges posed by unreliable power supply. Dr. Amin Adam stressed, “this is the true state of our nation,” advocating for the publication of a load-shedding timetable. This would enable citizens and businesses to better adapt to the ongoing economic difficulties caused by erratic energy provisions.
In summary, the NPP Minority Caucus has voiced strong opposition to President Mahama’s claims regarding the resolution of Ghana’s power crisis. They highlighted the ongoing challenges of power outages, which are significantly affecting small businesses and daily life. The call for a load-shedding timetable underscores the urgent need for transparent communication from the government in managing this national issue.
