Kenya Meteorological Department Announces Weather Forecast for Upcoming Weekend

The Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts mainly dry and sunny conditions across most regions from February 8 to February 12, 2025, with rain expected in southwestern areas and the highlands. Notably, the weather includes temperature highs of 31°C and 38°C in certain areas, alongside cautionary advisories for strong winds.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a revised five-day weather forecast from Saturday, February 8, to Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Predominantly dry and sunny conditions are expected throughout most regions of the country, with rainfall primarily confined to southwestern Kenya and areas near the Tanzania border.
In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, regions such as Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka are forecasted to remain largely dry, although there is potential for brief showers on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday afternoons. Monday night may also bring evening showers, with a possibility of all-day rain on Wednesday, featuring light rain in the morning and scattered showers in the afternoon and night.
Temperatures in these Highland regions are anticipated to reach highs of 28°C on both Tuesday and Wednesday, with minimum temperatures dropping to 10°C. For the remaining three days, highs of 27°C and lows of 8°C are expected.
In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, including the Lake Victoria Basin and counties such as Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Busia, periods of morning, afternoon, and evening showers are expected on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the forecast is for cloudy weather punctuated by sunny spells, with temperatures soaring to highs of 31°C and lows of 09°C.
Coastal regions, encompassing Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, are predicted to experience mostly dry conditions during the day, with intermittent cloudiness at night. Daytime temperatures are projected to exceed 32°C, while nighttime temperatures may settle at approximately 21°C.
In the southeastern lowlands—covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland Tana River County—rainy conditions are expected on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, particularly in the afternoons. Mornings and evenings are anticipated to be partly cloudy, with temperatures reaching highs of 31°C and lows of 12°C throughout the forecast period.
The northeastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will experience sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy nights, with temperatures rising to highs of 38°C and lows of 17°C. Dr. David Gikungu, the Director General of the Kenya Meteorological Department, has advised caution to residents in the northwestern and northeastern regions due to predicted strong southeasterly winds, which may reach speeds of 25 knots (12.5 m/s).
The Kenya Meteorological Department’s forecast indicates a mix of dry and rainy conditions across various regions from February 8 to 12, 2025. Key areas facing rainfall include southwestern Kenya and the highlands, while significant temperature variations are expected. Residents are urged to remain cautious of strong winds in certain parts of the country.
