Lukashenko Engages in Talks with Libyan National Army Commander

President Alexander Lukashenko met with Khalifa Haftar of the Libyan National Army to discuss enhancing Belarus-Libya relations amid Libya’s ongoing challenges. The talks highlighted Belarus’s readiness to support Libya’s recovery and showcased mutual interests in cooperation. Gifts were exchanged, symbolizing the strengthening of ties between the two nations.

Today, President Alexander Lukashenko hosted talks at the Palace of Independence with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the Supreme Commander of the Libyan National Army, and his delegation. The meeting underscored the longstanding relationship between Belarus and Libya, with Lukashenko expressing a commitment to foster cooperation despite Libya’s current challenges. He highlighted Belarus’s willingness to support the Libyan people’s recovery efforts and the importance of enhancing bilateral ties.

In a period marked by instability in Libya, Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov acknowledged the country’s ongoing need for international support. He lamented the effects of NATO’s intervention in 2011, which dramatically destabilized Libya. Nonetheless, he emphasized Belarus’s preparedness to assist Libya in rebuilding its socio-economic framework.

President Lukashenko welcomed Field Marshal Haftar warmly, asserting that Belarus remains informed about the situation in Libya. He affirmed his respect for the Libyan people and expressed eagerness to respond to Libyan needs with practical assistance. The Belarusian leader assured that any agreements made during Haftar’s visit would be promptly executed, signifying Belarus’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Field Marshal Haftar, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to meet, highlighted Belarus’s peaceful and stable environment, which he regards as exemplary amid global tensions.
