Police Arrest Suspect in Death of KNUST Student Yabane Deladem Aku

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a suspect linked to the death of Yabane Deladem Aku, a 21-year-old Level 400 Biological Science student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. The suspect, Daniel Tuffour, was taken into custody following thorough investigations at the crime scene and is currently assisting police inquiries.

In the early hours of February 27, 2025, Ms. Aku was discovered unresponsive behind the Central Laboratory on campus. Medical personnel from the KNUST Hospital confirmed her death at the scene before transferring her remains to the hospital morgue for preservation and an autopsy.

Subsequent examinations by the police indicated signs of violence on the body of the deceased. A police statement revealed that the Inspector-General of Police has reached out to Ms. Aku’s family to express condolences and assure them that justice will be pursued. Additionally, he met with representatives of the university community to discuss strategies for enhancing safety and protection for all individuals on campus.
