The DGM has issued a severe weather alert for Morocco this weekend, forecasting significant snow in mountains, heavy rainfall, and strong winds. Areas affected include various provinces with risks of flooding and disruption. Citizens are advised to exercise caution during this period.

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) in Morocco has issued a severe weather alert for the upcoming weekend, specifically for Friday and Saturday. This alert warns of a range of dangerous weather phenomena, including substantial snowfalls in mountainous areas, heavy thunderstorms that may disrupt daily activities, and strong wind gusts that pose safety risks resulting in potential dust storms.

Snow is anticipated to affect mountain ranges above 1,800 meters, beginning on Friday at 11 a.m. and ending at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Provinces expected to experience snow include Ifrane, Boulemane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Midelt, and Taroudant.

Furthermore, the forecast indicates persistent and occasionally severe rainfall from 6 a.m. on Friday to 4 p.m. on Saturday, with estimated accumulations between 30 and 50 millimeters. This rainfall heightens the risk of localized flooding, flash floods in wadis, and potential disruptions to transportation networks. Affected provinces include Safi, Essaouira, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Berrechid, Settat, Casablanca, Nouaceur, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taroudant, Nador, Al Hoceïma, Berkane, and Oujda.

Strong winds, reaching speeds of 70 to 95 kilometers per hour, combined with dust storms, are predicted on Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Regions impacted by these conditions include Figuig, Jerada, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, Zagora, Midelt, Boulemane, Guercif, and Tinghir.

In light of these potentially hazardous weather conditions, the DGM strongly urges individuals in the affected areas to exercise caution and implement necessary safety measures.

In summary, Morocco is bracing for severe weather over the weekend, with snow, heavy rainfall, and strong winds predicted across various provinces. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take all relevant precautions to mitigate potential risks associated with these weather phenomena.
