Man Killed in Violent Dispute Over Girlfriend in Niger State

In a tragic incident in Niger State, a 25-year-old man named Usman Mohammed lost his life following a violent altercation allegedly ignited over a dispute involving his girlfriend. The confrontation occurred in the Barkin Sale area of Minna when Usman visited his girlfriend, Halima Usman, in her neighborhood, known as Deeper Life Upper Base. Eyewitnesses reported that the couple was outside her apartment when they were approached by three young men who identified themselves as Barafi, Ayya, and one unidentified individual.
According to sources, the men attempted to persuade Halima with a cash offer of N5,000, which she refused. This led to an escalated confrontation, with the trio reportedly becoming increasingly aggressive and disruptive, targeting Usman. As tensions mounted, a scuffle broke out, during which one of the suspects produced a dagger and stabbed Usman in the back.
Emergency medical services rushed Usman to the General Hospital in Minna, where he received immediate treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Medical personnel declared him dead following a thorough examination. In the aftermath, officials from the Niger State Police Command visited the crime scene to gather evidence and subsequently transferred Usman’s body to the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy procedures.
Reports indicate that one suspect, identified as Ahmed Mohammed, has been apprehended by the police in relation to the incident. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the other two suspects involved. Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Command, announced that an investigation is presently underway to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic event and to ensure all responsible parties are held accountable. He stated, “An investigation is currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and bring all perpetrators to justice.” However, despite assurances of further communication, as of the time of reporting, there has been no follow-up from the spokesperson.
