NASCAR makes history this weekend with its first race in Mexico City at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Josh Berry and the No. 21 DEX Imaging Ford Mustang are set for the Viva Mexico 250, consisting of 100 laps. The event marks only the third points-paying race outside the continental U.S., adding excitement and challenges for teams and drivers alike.

This weekend marks a significant milestone for Wood Brothers Racing, as this is the first time the NASCAR Cup Series will compete in Mexico. Josh Berry, driving the No. 21 DEX Imaging Ford Mustang Dark Horse, will participate in the Viva Mexico 250 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. This event is particularly noteworthy, being only the third points-paying race held outside the contiguous United States for the Cup Series, consisting of 100 laps on a 2.429-mile road course.

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, constructed in 1959, pays tribute to iconic Mexican racers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. This historic venue has hosted numerous major motorsports events and presents a challenging track with a mix of tight corners and lengthy straights that will test the drivers’ skills.

Berry expressed his enthusiasm about the track’s layout. “It is definitely a pretty cool layout,” he stated. He anticipates the potential for overtaking opportunities but is also mindful of the challenges such as track limits in certain areas. “There’s definitely going to be issues with track limits in the esses, right? It’s just tight,” he remarked. Berry feels it could be tougher than the Circuit of the Americas, mentioning the lack of grass along the sides, adding to the challenge.

To prepare for this new venue, NASCAR has scheduled a comprehensive practice on Friday that includes a 50-minute session at 1 p.m., followed by an additional 25-minute session at 3 p.m. An important qualifying session will take place on Saturday at noon. As a reminder, the race itself will commence on Sunday, with the green flag set to wave at 3 p.m. Eastern time, for a total distance of 242 miles with breaks scheduled on Laps 20 and 45.

Fans can catch all the action on Amazon Prime Video throughout the weekend, ensuring that no one misses this historic event for NASCAR.

In summary, the NASCAR Cup Series is about to make history with its inaugural race in Mexico City. Josh Berry and his team are gearing up for the Viva Mexico 250 at a challenging and iconic circuit, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. With added practice sessions and keen anticipation for the race, this weekend is set to be an exciting chapter for NASCAR.
