A dismissed soldier named Michael Musa was arrested in Niger for alleged fraud totaling N920,000, involving several impersonation incidents at Point of Sale (PoS) shops. Musa reportedly confessed to the crimes during interrogation. The investigation is ongoing with more victims coming forward.
The Niger Police Command has apprehended a former soldier, Michael Musa, for allegedly committing multiple acts of fraud amounting to N920,000 through impersonation. This arrest stems from several complaints about deceptive activities linked to a series of Point of Sale (PoS) transactions. SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s Public Relations Officer, detailed the fraudulent incidents in a statement released in Minna on Tuesday.
According to the report, the first incident occurred on May 12, when the suspect, masquerading as a soldier, visited a PoS shop near Musa Bello Primary School in Bida. There, he deceitfully collected N120,000 from the shop operator before fleeing. A similar event took place on May 23, at around 9:30 AM, where he donned military camouflage and swindled a PoS attendant in Kataeregi out of N300,000.
Furthermore, the suspect continued his fraudulent spree on May 29 at a PoS shop located along Mandela Road, making off with an additional N500,000. Following the investigation, police detectives utilized technological intelligence to track down the suspect, who resides on Mandela Road in Minna.
Upon his arrest, Musa, dressed in military uniform, confessed to the fraudulent schemes and claimed that he had been dismissed from the military in 2022 while stationed in Benin, Edo. The police have noted that their investigation is ongoing and that several other victims have since stepped forward to report similar fraudulent encounters.
The arrest of Michael Musa highlights increasing concerns regarding impersonation fraud, especially in the context of military uniforms being utilized for deceitful purposes. With over N920,000 allegedly defrauded from multiple victims, authorities are keen on identifying additional victims as investigations continue. This case underscores the importance of vigilance within the community regarding such scams.
