BYD has officially launched its Sealion 07 electric SUV, now branded as the Sealion 7, in Guatemala. This marks another step in BYD’s international expansion, following its entry into the Guatemalan market in November 2024. The vehicle officially went on sale on May 22, following a statement released by the manufacturer today, which highlights its push for greener transportation options.

This launch aligns with BYD’s other overseas models, with the name alteration reflecting similar practices in markets like Norway and Thailand. The Sealion 07 is positioned competitively against Tesla’s Model Y, and it is being offered at RMB 189,800 (approximately $26,360) in China. The hope is that this model will prompt more consumers in Guatemala to consider electric vehicles, as the company aims to push new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the region.

BYD has introduced its cutting-edge e-Platform 3.0 Evo technology alongside the Sealion 07, initially launched in China on May 10, 2024. This advancement is part of BYD’s broader commitment to innovation in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. Following its debut, the Sealion 07 has already penetrated multiple international markets, including India, Mexico, and Hungary, bolstering BYD’s global presence.

The Sealion 7’s entry into Guatemala marks an effort to capitalize on Central America’s growing interest in environmentally friendly vehicles. The country is situated south of Mexico, with Guatemala City serving as its capital. BYD’s partnership with Grupo Confiño facilitated the launch of this model, alongside earlier introductions of the Han, Tang, Song Plus DM-i, and Seal.

In addition to the Sealion 7, BYD has also made other models available in Guatemala, including the Dolphin, Seagull, Yuan Plus, and Song Pro DM-i. BYD, recognized as China’s leading NEV manufacturer, has reported impressive sales figures. From January to April 2024 alone, the company sold over 1.3 million NEVs, witnessing a remarkable year-on-year rise of nearly 47%. In terms of exports, BYD saw an increase of over 105% in overseas sales during the same period, totaling 285,170 units.

In summary, BYD’s launch of the Sealion 7 electric SUV in Guatemala represents a significant move in the company’s ongoing international strategy. This model is expected to enhance the adoption of electric vehicles in the region, supported by BYD’s robust sales history and innovative technology. The partnership with local dealers and the introduction of multiple EV models highlight an ambitious vision for a greener future in Central America.
