Daystar Power Commissions Solar Energy System at Nexans Ghana Facility

Daystar Power has launched a 532kWp solar energy system at Nexans’ factory in Tema, Ghana. Comprising 918 PV panels, the system should generate 47.7 MWh annually, covering 55% of the factory’s daytime energy needs. This marks Daystar’s first ground-mounted solar installation in Ghana and aligns with Nexans’ sustainability goals of reducing carbon emissions and reliance on traditional power.
Daystar Power has proudly announced the successful launch of a 532kWp grid-tied solar energy system at the Nexans factory located in Tema, Ghana. Known globally for its comprehensive cable systems and energy solutions, Nexans is making strides towards sustainable operations, with this solar project being a significant part of their efforts.
The initiative features an impressive 918 photovoltaic (PV) panels arranged in a fully ground-mounted layout, marking the first such installation for Daystar Power in Ghana. This solar array is expected to produce around 47.7 MWh of energy annually, which will cover up to 55% of the factory’s electricity needs during daylight hours. The system is supported by an ENcombi controller that ensures seamless operation with the national grid and on-site generators, achieving an admirable 99.9% uptime while allowing for efficient maintenance.
Addressing the importance of this project, Victor Ezenwoko, the Ghana country head of Daystar Power, remarked, “Companies in Ghana face the pressing need to decarbonise their operations. Nexans is a great example of how companies can adopt solar energy to meet their carbon emissions targets and drive energy cost savings.” He expressed pride in Daystar’s inaugural ground-mounted system being situated in Ghana’s pivotal manufacturing zone.
The installation of the solar power system aligns with Nexans’ larger sustainability goals aimed at lowering emissions and diminishing reliance on traditional power sources in their Ghana facility. Alexander Quarcoopome, CEO of Nexans Kabelmetal, highlighted this partnership by stating, “At Nexans Kabelmetal, we are committed to integrating sustainable energy solutions into our operations, and this new solar system is a significant step towards achieving our environmental goals.”
Quarcoopome further emphasized their dedication to innovation and sustainability as the company strives towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This collaboration between Daystar Power and Nexans Kabelmetal exemplifies the increasing shift towards renewable energy in industrial operations, marking another stride in Ghana’s sustainable energy journey.
The commissioning of the solar energy system at Nexans’ Tema factory signifies a key development in Ghana’s move towards renewable energy. Both Daystar Power and Nexans Kabelmetal are committed to reducing emissions and exploring sustainable practices. This partnership not only represents technological advancement but also reinforces the necessity for industries to embrace greener energy solutions to meet environmental goals. With both companies aiming for significant energy cost savings and a net-zero emissions target, this initiative highlights the increasing shift towards sustainability in the region.
