Breakthrough in Investigation: Key Suspect Arrested in Kasipul MP Were’s Assassination

A key suspect, Isaac Kuria, has been arrested in the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. This arrest marks a significant breakthrough as Kuria is believed to have been the triggerman and was attempting to flee to Tanzania at the time of his capture. Eleven suspects are now in custody as investigations intensify into the motives and funding behind the assassination.
In a significant development in the investigation into the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, authorities have apprehended a key suspect. Isaac Kuria, known by the alias “Kush”, was captured in Isebania, a border town adjacent to Tanzania, as he attempted to flee the country. This arrest marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation following Were’s murder, which occurred in broad daylight on Nairobi’s Valley Road.
Currently, the law enforcement agency has detained eleven individuals tied to the assassination. This includes Were’s personal bodyguard, Allan Omondi, his driver, Walter Owino, and William Imoli, who allegedly played a crucial role in organizing and financing the hit.
Kuria is believed to be the individual who executed the assassination, meticulously tracking the late MP through Nairobi’s bustling central business district, eventually ambushing him while he was stuck in traffic. After the shooting, he reportedly fled to Mihang’o, where he disposed of the murder weapon—a pistol that has since been recovered by authorities. From there, he escaped to Narok and eventually made his way to Isebania by public transport.
Authorities gained critical information by intercepting Kuria’s communications with already detained suspects, leading to his swift capture. “We were monitoring his communications and knew he was trying to leave the country,” commented a source familiar with the investigation process. Kuria was not alone during his arrest; another individual was also taken into custody at the same lodging.
Following the apprehension of Kuria, the case continues to deepen as investigators explore the financial aspects behind the assassination plot. Detectives are currently analyzing bank transactions and communications among the suspects in order to uncover the motive. Prominent figures such as businessman-politician Phillip Aroko and Ebel Ochieng of the Lake Basin Development Authority are under scrutiny for potentially funding the crime.
Kuria, along with the other detainees, is scheduled to appear before the JKIA Law Courts on Monday after being transferred to Nairobi from Isebania. Meanwhile, the slain MP was buried in Kachien village, located in his Kasipul Constituency, on Friday, marking another poignant moment in this harrowing case.
The recent arrest of Isaac Kuria, a key suspect in the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, has shifted the investigation forward significantly. With the total number of detainees now at eleven, including various associates believed to be involved in the assassination plot, authorities are uncovering a complex web of funding and coordination behind the organized crime. As investigations proceed, the focus remains on unraveling the full motive behind this shocking murder, while the community mourns the loss of their representative.
