MUTARE – A 36-year-old man from Mutare received a harsh sentence after being convicted of rape and aggravated indecent assault involving a four-year-old girl. This disturbing case unfolded in Sakubva, where it was reported that on March 23, 2025, the young victim was lured into the man’s home while playing near her own residence.
As stated by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred around 4 PM. Once inside the perpetrator’s house, he forcibly removed the girl’s clothing and assaulted her. “The young girl was playing outside her home when the offender, who lived nearby, called her into his house,” NPAZ detailed in their account.
In a separate yet equally chilling event, the accused, within the same period, committed further acts of assault. He inserted his finger into the child’s private areas, prompting the girl to cry out. Witnessing her distress, the offender reportedly placed her on his lap. Once she heard her mother calling her name, the victim fled to her mother, still without clothing, and disclosed the horrifying events that had transpired.
Following the child’s brave disclosure, the abuse was promptly reported to law enforcement. A medical examination corroborated the victim’s claims and the findings were presented as crucial evidence in court. Ultimately, the Mutare Magistrates’ Court handed down a sentence of 30 years in prison for the offender in light of his heinous actions.
The alarming case involving a 36-year-old Mutare man has underscored the issue of child abuse in Zimbabwean society. Convicted of raping and committing aggravated indecent assault against a four-year-old girl, he now faces a significant prison sentence. This incident highlights the critical importance of safeguarding children and swift action against abusers.
