Over 100 Observers Deployed to Ensure Peaceful Nimba By-Election

Over 100 election observers have been dispatched to Nimba County for the upcoming by-election. Spearheaded by ECC, LEON, and WANEP, this initiative aims to promote peace and transparency during the electoral process. The observers will monitor key voting stages while urging all participants to comply with peaceful practices.
In preparation for the upcoming by-election in Nimba County, over 100 election observers and supervisors have been deployed, as announced by the Elections Coordinating Committee (ECC), the Liberia Election Observation Network (LEON), and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP). This deployment aims to ensure a transparent and orderly electoral process on the designated day of voting, scheduled for Tuesday.
During a press conference held in Ganta on April 21, it was revealed that 88 short-term observers will monitor the election across all nine electoral districts. Their focus will include crucial stages of the election process, such as poll setup, voting, counting, and the tallying of results. Additionally, 13 supervisors will be overseeing the election efforts throughout the county.
The overarching goal of this observer mission is to promote peaceful participation among voters, political parties, independent candidates, and local stakeholders. The participating organizations, ECC, LEON, and WANEP, have called for all involved to maintain peace and lawfulness during the electoral period.
The organizations also recognized the efforts of the National Elections Commission and other stakeholders for their proactive engagement with local communities through pre-election dialogues in areas identified as potential flashpoints for conflict. Nimba County features 736 polling centers across its nine districts, serving a registered voter base of over 300,000 individuals.
The deployment of over 100 election observers in Nimba County underscores a commitment to ensuring a peaceful and transparent electoral process during the by-election. The efforts by ECC, LEON, and WANEP reflect a proactive approach to mitigate conflicts and enhance community engagement. The successful execution of this process will be pivotal in reinforcing democracy in Liberia.
