Nigeria Police Neutralize Suspected Vandals Targeting Pipeline in Rivers State

The Nigeria Police in Rivers State confirmed the killing of suspected vandals plotting to bomb a pipeline in Rumuekpe Aluu. Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju announced that this action was part of a joint effort with security agencies to enhance safety in the state. Following this, two more suspects were arrested while preparing another attack in a different area.

On Tuesday, the Nigeria Police Command in Rivers State confirmed the shooting of several suspected vandals who were allegedly plotting to damage a pipeline in the Rumuekpe Aluu area. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju provided details at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, indicating that the suspects were killed on site. This operation is part of a collective initiative with various security agencies to secure the region.

Commissioner Adepoju stated, “The joint security forces successfully thwarted an attempt by miscreants to vandalise a pipeline, leading to the death of the vandals who sought to detonate it.” The thwarted bombing attempt occurred on March 16 in Allu-Rumuekpe, in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers.

Following the successful operation, security forces continued their vigilance and moved to the Onelga Local Government Area on March 19, where they prevented another potential bombing. During this engagement, two suspects were apprehended possessing four dynamite sticks, and police units used explosives to neutralize additional improvised explosive device (IED) components.

The Nigeria Police Command’s decisive actions have led to the elimination of suspected vandals attempting to damage critical infrastructure in Rivers State. Through coordinated efforts with other security agencies, they successfully prevented two bombing attempts, reflecting a strong commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region.
