The Liberian Government has closed the Lofa Medic Services Clinic after an alleged medical blunder led to the death of a patient. Sam Wolobah, the clinic’s administrator, has been arrested for impersonating a medical doctor and performing surgery without proper credentials. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the matter.

The Government of Liberia has taken decisive action by shutting down the Lofa Medic Services Clinic, following the tragic death of a patient during surgery. This decision, made in conjunction with the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), arose from allegations of medical malpractice by the clinic’s administrator, Sam Wolobah.

On March 26, 2025, authorities arrested Mr. Wolobah for reportedly performing an appendectomy—an operation to remove the appendix—on a 30-year-old man, Samuel P. Kollie, which ultimately resulted in Kollie’s death. Mr. Wolobah, who is not a licensed medical doctor, misrepresented himself as such.

In a press release issued on March 25, 2025, the Ministry of Justice and LMDC announced the immediate closure of the clinic as they initiate a thorough investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Mr. Wolobah, who is an Operating Room Technician, misled patients and violated the Liberian Penal Code by posing as a medical professional, which is subject to legal repercussions.

The closure of Lofa Medic Services Clinic highlights critical issues regarding medical malpractice and the need for strict adherence to medical licensing laws in Liberia. The swift response from the Ministry of Justice and LMDC underscores their commitment to public safety and accountability. As investigations continue, this incident may foster broader discussions on healthcare regulations and patient safety in the region.
