The motorsport community is in mourning following the passing of Eddie Jordan, a cherished Formula 1 icon, at the age of 76. Having revealed last year that he was fighting aggressive bladder and prostate cancer that metastasized, his family confirmed his peaceful death on March 20, 2025, in Cape Town.

In a statement, Jordan’s family expressed profound sadness, stating, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE, the ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit and entrepreneur.” They highlighted his magnetic personality and the deep void his absence creates, stating, “We all have a huge hole missing without his presence.”

Jordan was well-known as the team principal of Jordan Grand Prix in the 1990s and early 2000s before selling the team to Midland Group in 2005. Subsequently, he became a beloved broadcaster for BBC and Channel 4, where his humor and distinctive fashion sense endeared him to fans.

Tributes have poured in from across the motorsport world. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed condolences, saying, “Eddie has been a protagonist of an era of F1 and he will be deeply missed.”

Eddie Jordan is survived by his wife Marie and his four children, Zoe, Miki, Zak, and Kyle. Notably, he provided a platform for future champions, including Michael Schumacher, by giving him his first race in 1991. Jordan Grand Prix achieved four victories before its rebranding to Aston Martin.

Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell commented on Jordan’s impact, stating, “His vision laid the foundations for us and he leaves a lasting legacy for the entire motorsport community.” Jordan also managed renowned car designer Adrian Newey last year, demonstrating his ongoing influence in the field.
