A 70-year-old man from Madagascar, Firdoche Houssen, experienced severe abdominal pain due to an abdominal aortic aneurysm after a fall. Following diagnosis and a minimally invasive stent graft procedure led by Dr. Ashank Bansal in India, he made a swift recovery. His case underscores the importance of early diagnosis and advanced medical interventions.

A fall from bed led to a significant medical emergency for 70-year-old Firdoche Houssen from Madagascar. After experiencing severe abdominal pain for more than two months, he sought treatment in India and was diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurysm, a hazardous bulging of the main artery.

Under the care of Dr. Abhijeet Soni and Dr. Ashank Bansal at Masina Hospital, Byculla, Houssen underwent a minimally invasive stent graft procedure. This approach allowed for a successful intervention, minimizing complications and facilitating a quick recovery for the patient.

Initially dismissing the pain he sustained from the fall, Houssen eventually sought help in Madagascar. Doctors there recommended traveling for advanced care, leading him to India, where a CT abdomen angiography confirmed the aneurysm—a potentially fatal ailment requiring prompt treatment.

Dr. Ashank Bansal elaborated on the nature of abdominal aortic aneurysms: “AAA occurs when a section of the aorta weakens and bulges, posing the risk of rupture and severe internal bleeding.” The condition is often connected to lifestyle factors such as smoking and high blood pressure.

The surgical team utilized a stent grafting procedure, a state-of-the-art technique that significantly reduces recovery time and risks associated with open surgery. Dr. Bansal remarked, “Instead of a large incision, we used a 1 cm entry point through the artery to place a stent, reinforcing the weakened section of the aorta.”

The procedure was successfully completed in two hours on March 3, with Houssen mobilized the following day and discharged on March 5. This speed of treatment illustrates the advantages of modern medical interventions.

Fatema Firdos Djaver, Houssen’s daughter, commented on the experience: “My father suffered for two months… Choosing India and meeting Dr. Ashank Bansal and Dr. Zainulabedin Hamdulay was life-changing.” Houssen’s story emphasizes the critical importance of early diagnosis and access to advanced medical techniques.

Firdoche Houssen’s case illustrates the severe consequences of delayed medical intervention and highlights the need for awareness regarding abdominal aortic aneurysms. The successful minimally invasive procedure not only saved his life but also exemplifies the effectiveness of advanced medical practices available today. This case reinforces the significance of prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment in critical health situations.
