The 2025 WRC Safari Rally commences this Thursday in Nairobi with heightened safety measures and increased attendance capacity. The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, has underscored the importance of safety for Kenyans as they partake in the exhilarating experience of the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally. Commencing in Nairobi on Thursday, the rally will showcase high-speed motorsport action in Naivasha throughout the weekend.

Mvurya stressed, “Remember to be cautious because the rally cars are quite fast, thrilling, and spectacular. We all want to return home in one piece.” This year, the event organizers have adopted enhanced safety protocols, which have enabled an increased audience capacity since the Safari Rally’s return to the WRC calendar in 2021. Notably, President William Ruto is expected to officially commence the event at City Hall Way in Nairobi.

Furthermore, Mvurya emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting female drivers in motorsport, highlighting the participation of an all-female team led by Pauline Shegu and Linet Ayuko, along with Tinashe Gatimu navigating with her mother. “They are role models inspiring young Kenyan women to embrace motorsport. The government is committed to nurturing talent in the sport,” Mvurya stated.

The 2025 WRC Safari Rally is anticipated to be the most challenging yet, according to Charles Gacheru, CEO of WRC Safari Rally Kenya. He remarked that the shakedown session had already revealed the extreme difficulty expected during the competition, stating, “This is going to be the most challenging rally ever seen in Kenya, judging by today’s experience.”

The shakedown session also showcased Finnish driver Kalle Rovanperä setting the fastest time, surpassing competitor Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak, thus setting the stage for an intense competitive atmosphere this weekend in Naivasha.
