The Moroccan weather office has issued an orange level alert for significant rainfall and snowfall across various provinces from Monday to Wednesday. Expected rainfall in Taourirt, Figuig, Guercif, Boulemane, Errachidia, Tinghir, and Midelt ranges from 35 to 50 millimeters, occurring from midnight on Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday local time. Additionally, a lesser rainfall of 25 to 30 millimeters is anticipated in Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Sefrou, Taza, Beni Mellal, Azilal, M’diq-Fnideq, and Fahs-Anjra between Monday morning and late evening.
Snowfall is forecasted for provinces including Boulemane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, and Midelt beginning midnight on Monday into Tuesday morning. Furthermore, cold temperatures ranging from -3 to 3 degrees Celsius are predicted from Monday to Wednesday, especially affecting Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Midelt, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Boulemane, and Ifrane.
The recent rains are beneficial for Morocco’s agriculture sector, which has faced prolonged drought and water scarcity issues. Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari recently launched the agricultural season, implementing strategies to aid farmers in overcoming challenges posed by water scarcity and rising costs. The ministry is set to cover 5 million hectares with around 1.26 million quintals of certified seeds, primarily focused on autumn cereals, which will be offered at prices 3-5% lower than the previous year to encourage uptake.
The weather forecast for Morocco indicates significant rainfall and snowfall, providing essential relief to an agriculture sector struggling with water scarcity. Additionally, the government’s proactive measures, launched by the Agriculture Minister, aim to support farmers amid these climatic challenges. The ongoing agricultural season is strategically designed to enhance crop yield and sustainability across the affected provinces.
