Restoration of Nampula and Nacala Connection After Tropical Storm Jude

The land connection between Nampula and Nacala-Porto has been restored following the opening of a detour in the Anchilo area, impacted by Tropical Storm Jude. This enables renewed circulation of people and vehicles, aiding economic activities. Traffic between Rapale and Mecubúri districts has also been restored, relieving congestion caused by road closures.

The connection between Nampula city and Nacala-Porto, as well as with coastal districts such as the Island of Mozambique, Mossuril, and Memba, has been successfully restored. This restoration was made possible by the opening of a road diversion in the Anchilo area, which had been impacted by Tropical Storm Jude, resulting in the cutting of National Road Number One (N1).

Williamo Tuzine, spokesperson for the Provincial Executive Council, announced this significant development following a recent government session. The establishment of the detour allows for renewed movement of vehicles and individuals, aiding in the gradual recovery of economic activities within the region.

In addition, traffic disruptions between Rapale and Mecubúri districts have been addressed, alleviating the considerable congestion previously caused by road closures. These closures had led to long queues, as vehicles were transporting essential goods and fuel.

The reopening of the detour between Nampula and Nacala-Porto represents a critical step in restoring vital transportation links post-Tropical Storm Jude. This development is expected to enhance economic activity in the affected regions and improve the flow of goods and services, which were significantly hindered by previous road disruptions.
