Recent U.S. strikes in Yemen resulted in at least 24 deaths, including 13 civilians. President Trump declared the Houthis a “foreign terrorist organisation” and issued ultimatums against both the Houthis and Iran. The Houthis condemned the strikes as a “war crime” and pledged to escalate their response, particularly involving maritime threats. The region’s instability continues to disrupt global shipping amidst heightened tensions.

In a significant military escalation, the United States has conducted large-scale strikes in Yemen, resulting in at least 24 fatalities. Among those killed were 13 civilians in the capital, Sanaa, and 11 individuals, including four children and a woman, in the northern province of Saada, a stronghold of the Houthi movement. President Donald Trump has reclassified the Houthi group as a “foreign terrorist organisation” and declared that their time is “up.”

Trump emphasized the Houthis’ threats toward maritime security in the Red Sea, vowing to employ “overwhelming lethal force” until a definitive objective is reached. In a vehement post on social media, he admonished the Houthis, stating, “YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY.” Furthermore, he urged Iran to cease its support for the Houthis immediately, warning of severe consequences if they continue to threaten the United States and its allies.

In response to the strikes, the Houthis condemned the actions as a “war crime” and proclaimed their readiness to retaliate. They have also indicated that their recent naval assaults are politically motivated, purportedly in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Since the onset of this unrest, the Houthis have reportedly executed numerous attacks on commercial vessels and U.S. warships, claiming a total of 319 incidents since 2023.

The U.S. strikes in Yemen have marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict, prompting severe warnings from President Trump towards the Houthis and Iran. The situation remains tense as the Houthis prepare to respond to U.S. actions, while international reactions highlight the complexity of geopolitical dynamics in the region. The reclassification of the Houthis adds another layer of severity to the conflict, affecting ongoing humanitarian concerns and global commerce.
