In 2024, Toyota topped the list of stolen vehicles in Kenya, representing 54.91% of all thefts according to a report by AKI. Other notable makes included Isuzu (12.88%), Mazda (7.06%), Nissan (5.83%), and Mitsubishi (3.99%). Overall thefts decreased by 28% from the previous year, with a total of 327 vehicles stolen.

In 2024, a report by the Association of Kenyan Insurers (AKI) revealed that Toyota vehicles were the most frequently stolen in Kenya. According to their findings which cover the period from January 1 to December 31, 2024, Toyotas accounted for 54.91 percent of all stolen vehicles. This marks a notable trend in vehicle theft.

The data indicates that other makes were also targets of theft, with Isuzu at 12.88 percent, Mazda at 7.06 percent, Nissan at 5.83 percent, and Mitsubishi at 3.99 percent. These statistics highlight the preference of thieves for particular brands within the Kenyan automotive market.

Overall, the report noted a total of 327 motor vehicles were reported stolen in 2024, which represents a significant 28 percent decrease compared to 419 vehicles reported stolen in 2023. This decline in theft incidents suggests improvements in vehicle security or law enforcement effectiveness.
