NDLEA Intercepts Drug Trafficking Attempts, Arrests Two Suspects

The NDLEA has intercepted drug trafficking attempts to five countries, seizing cocaine, tramadol, and other narcotics at Lagos airport. Two suspects were arrested, including a businesswoman and a man attempting to ship skunk disguised as clothing. The operation underscores NDLEA’s commitment to curbing drug smuggling efforts and its ongoing public awareness campaigns.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted attempts by drug trafficking organizations to smuggle illegal substances from Nigeria to five countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reported that the illicit consignments contained drugs such as cocaine, tramadol, loud, molly, and other narcotics, intended to be shipped via logistics companies and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The suspect apprehended on March 8 was a 43-year-old businesswoman caught at the airport while trying to board an Air France flight to Italy. Authorities found 190 parcels of tramadol and an additional parcel of skunk, a strain of cannabis, in her luggage. The suspect admitted to purchasing the drugs for resale in Italy.
Additionally, on March 11, a 60-year-old male suspect was arrested while attempting to ship a package disguised as clothing. Upon inspection, 400 grams of skunk were discovered hidden within the garments, intended for New York, USA. In total, NDLEA operatives have seized over two kilograms of illicit substances concealed in various items, demonstrating ongoing drug interdiction efforts.
The NDLEA has demonstrated significant capability in combating drug trafficking by successfully intercepting substantial quantities of narcotics destined for international locations. The recent arrests highlight the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking organizations and protecting public health. Their ongoing War Against Drug Abuse campaigns further emphasize the importance of awareness and intervention in the fight against drug-related issues in Nigeria.
