In Huế, children with cleft lip and palate deformities are receiving free screenings and surgeries thanks to a partnership between Huế Central Hospital and the Interplast Volunteer Surgical Team. This initiative aims to restore smiles, enhance confidence, and improve quality of life for these children, with nearly 1,200 surgeries conducted since 2016. Future goals include the establishment of a comprehensive treatment center.

In Thừa Thiên Huế, numerous children suffering from birth defects such as cleft lips and palate deformities have benefited from free medical screenings and surgeries. This program not only offers them improved health but also a chance to regain their confidence, effectively transforming their smiles.

On March 13, Doctor Nguyễn Hồng Lợi announced that the Maxillofacial Centre at Huế Central Hospital is partnering with the Interplast Volunteer Surgical Team from Germany to provide these essential services. From March 10 to March 20, expert medical professionals have conducted screenings and surgeries, addressing the needs of over 100 children diagnosed with congenital disabilities.

Among those seeking help is Trần Thị Loan from Ho Chi Minh City, who brought her son for cleft palate surgery. She expressed her appreciation for the medical staff’s dedication and expressed confidence in the specialized care provided. She indicated her intention to continue utilizing the services of the Interplast surgical team in the future to further her son’s recovery.

Doctor Peter Schachner, a member of the Interplast team, emphasized the purpose of their visit: to ensure that children in Vietnam have access to top-tier medical care for cleft lip treatments. Because of the meticulous preparations by Huế Central Hospital, the surgical teams have effectively collaborated to optimize patient outcomes.

These congenital deformities remain prevalent, particularly in Asia, with Vietnam reporting an incidence rate of approximately one in every 700 to 800 children. Beyond health concerns, these conditions significantly impede children’s communication and social integration. Huế Central Hospital sees hundreds of patients each year afflicted by these deformities.

Since the inception of their collaboration with Interplast in 2016, nearly 1,200 surgeries have been successfully performed, reflecting the commitment of both organizations to advance medical techniques in the region.

Doctor Lợi indicated future aspirations, aiming to implement further training for medical staff and to develop a comprehensive treatment center for cleft lip and palate conditions at Huế Central Hospital. The ongoing partnership between Huế Central Hospital and Interplast has empowered many underprivileged children across the nation to rediscover their smiles and enhance their quality of life.

The collaborative efforts between Huế Central Hospital and the Interplast Organization have significantly impacted the lives of children with cleft lip and palate deformities in Vietnam. By providing free screenings and surgeries, the initiative restores health and confidence to many underprivileged children. The long-standing partnership promises continued advancements in medical care, training, and the development of specialized treatment facilities.
