Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology forecasts strong winds and snowfall in several provinces on Monday and Tuesday next week, with wind speeds of 75-85 km/h and snowfall expected above 1,900 meters. Recent rains have improved water reserves significantly, vital for agriculture. Weather warnings have been issued for massive waves affecting coastal areas.

Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a forecast predicting that strong winds and snowfall will impact several provinces on Monday and Tuesday of the upcoming week. Wind speeds are expected to range between 75 to 85 kilometers per hour, with accompanying dust storms affecting areas such as Youssoufia, Chichaoua, and Essaouira.

In addition, provinces including Marrakech, Berrechid, El Jadida, Rhamna, Safi, and Sidi Bennour will experience these severe weather conditions beginning Monday morning at 9 a.m. Snowfall is anticipated in regions above 1,900 meters, particularly in Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, and Beni Mellal, with accumulations ranging from 5 to 20 centimeters. Ifrane and Midelt are also projected to experience snow from 6 p.m. Monday until noon Tuesday.

Recent significant rainfall has rejuvenated various water sources across Morocco, including previously dry waterfalls, dams, and other bodies of water that have suffered from prolonged drought for seven years. As of Saturday, Morocco’s dam reservoirs have reached 33.82% of their total capacity, holding 5.7 billion cubic meters of water, in contrast to the 4.8 billion cubic meters recorded prior to the recent rainfall.

These downpours have impacted provinces nationwide, providing a vital boost to the nation’s ecosystem and agriculture. Weather officials have indicated that additional rain is expected to follow the warm weather forecast for this weekend.

Furthermore, on Saturday, the Ministry of Equipment cautioned about the impending massive waves set to impact coastal areas starting Monday afternoon, with heights projected between 4 to 6.5 meters. This surge will affect the Tangier Med Port and extend along the Atlantic coast from Cape Spartel in Tangier to Cape Hadid in Essaouira.

The impending inclement weather in Morocco, with strong winds, snowfall, and heavy waves, underscores the significant environmental changes occurring within the region. The recent rains have positively contributed to the country’s water reserves and revitalized its ecosystem, particularly in the agricultural sector. These weather patterns warrant close monitoring to mitigate risks to the populace and infrastructure.
