Uzbekistan Emerges as a Major Production Hub for Chevrolet Tracker

Uzbekistan has become the main production hub for the Chevrolet Tracker in Eurasia after production ceased in China due to low demand. General Motors closed its Shenyang plant, and Tracker production in Uzbekistan has reached 50% localization. The Tracker is also produced in Brazil and Argentina, extending its presence beyond Eurasia.

Uzbekistan has established itself as the primary production hub for the Chevrolet Tracker crossover within the Eurasian region. This shift occurred following the cessation of Tracker manufacturing in China, prompted by a decrease in domestic demand. Previously, the vehicle was produced at the SAIC-GM Norsom plant, which has since been closed to allow the company to concentrate on other market sectors.

Approximately one month ago, General Motors declared the closure of its facility in Shenyang, located in northeastern China, which was responsible for producing Buick GL8 minivans and Chevrolet Tracker crossovers tailored for the Chinese market. After this transition, Uzbekistan has achieved a notable localization level in Tracker production, reaching 50%.

Besides its manufacturing in Uzbekistan, the Chevrolet Tracker is also produced in Latin America, with assembly plants situated in Brazil and Argentina, thereby expanding its reach beyond the Eurasian market.

In summary, Uzbekistan’s emergence as the primary production center for the Chevrolet Tracker marks a significant shift in automotive manufacturing within the region. This transition follows the closure of production facilities in China due to declining demand, highlighting a strategic focus on localizing manufacturing processes. With the Tracker’s production now extending to Latin America, the model is increasingly becoming a global product.
