A Bangladeshi businessman, Kamrul Islam, was shot dead by robbers in South Africa while closing his shop. This tragic event occurred in Vepener around 9 PM local time. On Thursday night, a Bangladeshi businessman named Kamrul Islam, aged 33, was fatally shot during a robbery in Vepener, Free State Province, South Africa. This tragic incident occurred around 9 PM local time. Kamrul was originally from Karmullahpur village in the Daganbhuiyan upazila, Feni district, Bangladesh. His elder brother, Kamruzzaman, confirmed the unfortunate news.

Kamrul Islam had relocated to South Africa twelve years prior, initially employed before establishing his own business. He had intentions to return to Bangladesh shortly. According to reports, two armed robbers entered his shop as Kamrul was closing for the night, stealing cash and valuables before forcing him outside, presumably to search for more money in his vehicle.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that Kamrul was shot in the left side of his chest and died at the scene. His brother Kamruzzaman mentioned that they are communicating with relatives in South Africa and are in the process of organizing Kamrul’s return to Bangladesh. He has also requested the government’s assistance in this matter.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer, SM Azharul Islam, stated that he is aware of the situation and is coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding necessary actions to address the incident.
