U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended a Brazilian fugitive, age 38, in Everett, Massachusetts, on January 22. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston, emphasized the necessity of addressing such threats: “Every day he was hiding out in Massachusetts, he posed a significant threat to our residents.”

The fugitive initially entered the United States illegally and was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol on October 15, 2020. Following this, he was issued a notice by a Department of Justice immigration judge but was promptly returned to Mexico the next day. Subsequently, he re-entered the U.S. unlawfully on April 2, 2021, and was granted bond by an immigration judge on September 27, 2021.

Brazilian authorities issued an arrest warrant on May 20, 2024, for the fugitive related to armed robbery, which could result in a 16-year prison sentence.
