This marks the third cyclone to hit Mozambique in four months, adding to the previous devastation caused by Cyclones Chido and Dikeledi.

A recent cyclone, designated Cyclone Jude, has struck northern Mozambique, resulting in the loss of at least six lives and the destruction of over 900 homes. The storm, which made landfall on Monday, was characterized by maximum wind speeds of 195 kilometers per hour as well as precipitation surpassing 250 millimeters within a 24-hour period, according to the National Institute of Meteorology.

Cyclone Jude is notably the third cyclone to affect Mozambique within a four-month span. Reports indicate that the cyclone not only claimed lives but also injured approximately 20 individuals, impacting around 9,500 residents overall. Although it has weakened to a tropical storm, it continues to produce severe weather conditions including heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms.

In the preceding months, Mozambique experienced two significant cyclones; Cyclone Chido in December resulted in at least 120 fatalities and nearly 120,000 destroyed homes. Following that, Cyclone Dikeledi struck in mid-January, leading to five additional deaths and significant property damage, affecting approximately 3,500 homes.

Cyclone Jude has significantly impacted northern Mozambique, highlighting the ongoing struggle the region faces with severe weather events. The cumulative effects of this cyclone and previous storms underscore the vulnerability of the country. As weather patterns continue to evolve, further attention is required to address disaster management and resilience in the face of such natural calamities.
