Father of Missing Indian Student Urges Broader Investigation in Dominican Republic

The father of Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student missing in the Dominican Republic, is requesting a broader investigation into her disappearance, suggesting possibilities of kidnapping or abduction. Current search efforts are ongoing, with local and federal authorities involved. The family has raised concerns about her belongings being left with friends, marking unusual behavior.
Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, has been missing since March 6 in the Dominican Republic. Her father, Subbarayudu Konanki, is demanding a broader investigation into her disappearance, calling for authorities to consider “kidnapping or abduction” rather than merely an accident. He noted that after four days, if she was in the water, she should have already been found.
Last seen near a beach close to her resort, Sudiksha’s disappearance has led to extensive search efforts, which include drones, helicopters, and detection dogs. However, her family has voiced concerns regarding the circumstances of her disappearance, particularly the fact that Sudiksha left her phone and wallet with friends, which is atypical for her.
Following their arrival in Punta Cana, the Konanki family filed a formal complaint urging a deeper investigation into the case. Subbarayudu’s plea to the authorities included a request to look into possibilities beyond accidental drowning, stressing that all aspects of the case should be considered.
Authorities have acknowledged that it may take up to a week for a body to surface in warm waters. However, they have stated that the investigation continues, focusing on the report that the waves reportedly swept her away. Sudiksha, originally from Chantilly, Virginia, was traveling with five friends on a holiday when she went missing.
The University of Pittsburgh has expressed its commitment to supporting Sudiksha’s family, remaining in contact with both local authorities and those in the Dominican Republic for assistance in locating her. They are working diligently to ensure that all possible actions are taken to find Sudiksha and bring her back home safely.
The disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki has prompted her father to advocate for a wider investigation into potential foul play, including kidnapping, rather than solely focusing on accidental drowning. As search efforts continue with the involvement of multiple law enforcement agencies, the family remains hopeful for her safe return. The University of Pittsburgh is actively supporting their efforts, highlighting the urgency and concern surrounding this case.
