Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, called for a discussion in the Lok Sabha regarding concerns about voter lists, highlighting that numerous political parties have raised issues related to these lists. During the Zero Hour, Mr. Gandhi expressed that opposition parties collectively demand a thorough dialogue on this matter, despite the government’s assertion that it does not compile voter lists.

He noted that scrutiny of voter lists is widespread across the nation, with the opposition questioning the integrity of these lists consistently in various states, including Maharashtra. Mr. Gandhi emphasized the necessity for the government to address these concerns comprehensively.

Additionally, Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy pointed out specific flaws in the voter lists, mentioning discrepancies such as identical EPIC numbers appearing in locations like Murshidabad and Burdwan in West Bengal, and in Haryana. Roy stated that a delegation from his party intended to meet the newly-appointed chief election commissioner to express these concerns formally.

He urged for an extensive revision of the voter lists, especially with the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam. Mr. Roy articulated that significant errors had already been identified in states like Maharashtra, where inflated voter lists had been reported, and warned that similar issues could arise in West Bengal and Assam where polls are scheduled to be held soon.
