Scrap Dealer Sentenced for Theft of Ghana Water Limited Fittings

Tahiru Issah, a 20-year-old scrap dealer, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for stealing fittings valued at GHS 3,250 from Ghana Water Limited. Chief Inspector Henry Tetteh Nartey detailed how police apprehended him during a patrol. Dr. Samuel Eson of Ghana Water thanked the court and urged community vigilance against theft.

The Ashaiman Circuit Court has convicted Tahiru Issah, a 20-year-old scrap dealer, to 12 months of hard labor following his guilty plea to theft. This ruling was issued by His Worship Mr. Derrick Parden Eshun on March 5, 2025. Issah, a resident of Fitter Line in Ashaiman, was apprehended by police during a nighttime patrol on February 26, 2025.

Following Chief Inspector Henry Tetteh Nartey’s prosecution, it was revealed that police officers discovered a black polythene bag containing six stopcocks, six safety valves, and one return valve in Issah’s possession, valued at GHS 3,250.00, all belonging to Ghana Water Limited. After being arrested, Issah admitted to stealing these fittings from local residents, leading to his charge and subsequent custody.

Dr. Samuel Eson, Regional Chief Manager for the Tema Region of Ghana Water Limited, has thanked the court for its verdict. He noted that the company has faced numerous incidents of meter theft, which have adversely affected their operations. Dr. Eson has urged community members to report any suspicious activities to the authorities and has warned scrap dealers to refrain from stealing installations, emphasizing that legal consequences will follow any such actions.
