Detective Constable Cassandra Hove was killed by a police bullet during an encounter with armed robbers in Bulawayo. Initially believed to have been shot by the criminals, her family disclosed that she died from friendly fire. In Bulawayo’s Pumula South suburb, Detective Constable Cassandra Hove tragically lost her life during an encounter with armed robbers, but her family has now revealed that she was killed by a police bullet. The 37-year-old detective, a mother of four, was shot once in the left breast, with the bullet still lodged in her body, as noted in a postmortem report viewed by ZimLive.

She was swiftly taken to Flex Clinic in Lobengula but was pronounced dead upon arrival just before 9 PM. Initially, it was believed she had been shot by the armed robbers during the pursuit; however, police officials have now clarified that her death resulted from friendly fire.

Family spokesman Ryan Gambinga expressed the family’s shock at the circumstances surrounding Hove’s death, stating that they are deeply troubled by the revelation that a fellow officer was involved in the incident, rather than the criminals. He emphasized the family’s dedication to uncovering the full truth and ensuring justice is served.

Gambinga also highlighted the need for a thorough investigation into the matter, stating, “As we mourn the loss of our beloved daughter, we demand a thorough and transparent investigation.” In response to Hove’s death, Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba confirmed that comprehensive investigations are currently ongoing to determine the precise events leading to this tragedy.

At the time of her death, Hove was pursuing a career outside the police force, having recently earned a degree in forensic accounting. She was a commendable member of the all-female Lozikeyi team of detectives at Bulawayo Central Police Station.
