The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning of moderate to heavy rainfall expected across several regions of the country from March 7 to March 11, 2025. The advisory highlights that eight regions, including the highlands west and east of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley, will be significantly affected. Additionally, the coastal region, southeastern lowlands, northwest, and parts of the southern coast are also forecasted to experience rainfall during this period.
The department anticipates predominantly sunny, dry, and hot weather across most areas, with a shift to possible rainfall from the weekend onwards. Isolated storms may occur, particularly during this time. Specific regions such as Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi are projected to receive moderate to heavy rain from Saturday to Tuesday, following a hot and sunny Friday.
Furthermore, counties in the Lake Victoria Basin and Rift Valley, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira, are expected to experience similar rainfall patterns from March 9 to March 12. Other areas like Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot will also witness moderate to heavy rains. In contrast, the North Eastern region, comprising Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will remain predominantly dry and sunny throughout the weekend.
The Meteorological Department also cautioned that temperatures across most of Kenya may exceed 30°C, except in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, where cooler conditions are expected. Additionally, strong south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are predicted in parts of northwestern and northeastern Kenya, signifying increased weather activity in the region.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a crucial advisory regarding the expected heavy rainfall across various regions from March 7 to March 11, 2025. While many areas will experience predominantly sunny temperatures initially, rainfall and potential storms are anticipated, particularly during the weekend. Regions such as the Lake Victoria Basin and central highlands are expected to be most affected, while some areas will remain dry. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as these weather changes may impact daily life and preparedness is recommended.
