Mansour Lawal, brother of deceased Nigerian player Abubakar Lawal, has urged both Nigerian and Ugandan governments to investigate the circumstances surrounding his brother’s death. Abubakar reportedly fell from a shopping mall balcony in Kampala, leading to calls for accountability and transparency in the inquiry into his tragic demise. The Nigerian embassy in Uganda has committed to supporting the investigation.

Mansour Lawal, the elder brother of Abubakar Lawal, a Nigerian football player who recently passed away in Uganda, has appealed to the Nigerian and Ugandan governments to investigate the circumstances surrounding his brother’s death. This plea follows conflicting reports regarding the cause of his death, initially stated as a motorcycle accident before being clarified as a fall from a shopping mall balcony in Kampala.

Abubakar Lawal, aged 29, was laid to rest in his home state of Sokoto on February 24, following a memorial by his club, Vipers SC. Mansour expressed gratitude towards various individuals and organizations for their support during this difficult time, emphasizing the need for accountability regarding his brother’s untimely death.

Mansour Lawal requested both governments to collaborate with the Nigerian embassy to ensure justice, urging them to identify anyone responsible for his brother’s death. He acknowledged the efforts made by Vipers president and local governments in facilitating the return of Abubakar’s remains.

The Ugandan authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the Nigerian High Commission in Uganda also pledging to uncover the truth. According to police reports, Abubakar arrived at the mall to meet his Tanzanian friend and fell from the balcony shortly after.

Ambassador Shama Shanga from the Nigerian Embassy in Uganda has been actively engaging with local authorities to demand a comprehensive investigation into Lawal’s death. NiDCOM’s Chairman, Dabiri-Erewa, expressed concern over the incident, labeling it suspicious and advocating for transparency throughout the investigative process. Lawal previously played for several clubs before joining Vipers SC in Uganda.

In summary, the tragic death of Abubakar Lawal has raised many questions and concerns about accountability and justice. His brother Mansour is actively seeking a thorough investigation by both Nigerian and Ugandan authorities. The Nigerian government, through relevant commissions, has pledged support in addressing this matter, as investigations are already underway regarding the causes of the incident. The situation remains critical as the family and supporters seek answers and justice for the late footballer.
